Planning 16th August 2022
CRANBROOK & SISSINGHURST PARISH COUNCIL
MINUTES OF THE PLANNING & PRESERVATION COMMITTEE
HELD ON 16TH AUGUST 2022
Declaration of Interests, Dispensations and Predetermination:
Members are required to declare any interests, dispensations or predetermination on items on this agenda. Members are reminded that changes to the Register of Interests should be notified to the Clerk.
Present: Cllr. Bunyan (Chairman), Cllrs. Hatcher, Kings, Somers and Gilbert
PLANNING APPLICATIONS:
22/02078/FULL
2 West Terrace High Street Cranbrook Kent TN17 3LG
Proposed single storey rear extension and internal works at ground floor.
The Parish Council recommended APPROVAL proposed by Cllr. Bunyan, seconded by Cllr. Kings and agreed.
22/01909/ADV
33 High Street Cranbrook Kent TN17 3EE
1 no. fascia sign, 1 no. projecting sign, internally applied vinyl graphics and internally located digital screen.
The Parish Council recommended REFUSAL for the following reasons:
- If an illuminated digital screen is needed it should not be placed facing the High Street. Cranbrook and Sissinghurst Parish Council has always refused illuminated signage.
- The front windows and doors should be kept clear of advertising. The building is listed and within the heart of the Conservation Area. Any advertising and signage should be in keeping with and enhance the High Street. (The committee noticed that Domino’s have a shop in a similar sensitive area in another town where the design was discrete and enhanced the area)
- We would like the Conservation Officer to pay particular attention to this new shop frontage.
- The hanging sign is overly large and should be reduced in size.
Proposed by Cllr. Hatcher, seconded by Cllr. Gilbert and agreed.
22/02216/FULL
The Orchard Angley Road Cranbrook Kent TN17 3LR
Erection of two storey and single storey side extension, conversion and alterations to existing garage into proposed annexe and erection of single bay garage.
The Parish Council recommended REFUSAL for the following reasons:
- Although the Parish Council had no objection to the extension there was a lack of justification for the conversion and replacement of the garage.
Proposed by Cllr. Gilbert, seconded by Cllr. Kings and agreed. Should TWBC be mindful to approve this application the annexe should remain ancillary to the main dwelling.
